The hunt is now over. Thanks for playing!

Welcome to the YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors, and a chance to win some awesome prizes. At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team (including WASTE OF SPACE). Somewhere along the way is an excerpt from WASTE OF SPACE, too. So, you know. Get on that.

There are seven contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all. I am a part of the GREEN TEAM:

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

I’m hosting Mindy McGuiness. Let’s learn more about her!

THE AUTHOR

Mindy McGinnis is an Edgar Award-winning novelist who writes across multiple genres, including post-apocalyptic, historical, thriller, contemporary, mystery, and fantasy.

While her settings may change, you can always count on Mindy’s books to deliver grit, truth, and an unflinching look at humanity and the world around us.

For more information, check out her website , and buy her books here!

THE BOOK

Mindy McGinnis returns with a new dark and twisted psychological thriller—perfect for fans of Gone Girl and Fight Club.

Sasha Stone knows her place—first-chair clarinet, top of her class, and at the side of her Oxford-wearing boyfriend. She’s worked her entire life to ensure her path to Oberlin Conservatory as a star musician is perfectly paved.

But suddenly there’s a fork in the road in the shape of Isaac Harver. Her body shifts toward him when he walks by, and her skin misses his touch even though she’s never known it. Why does he act like he knows her so well—too well—when she doesn’t know him at all?

Sasha discovers that her by-the-book life began by ending the chapter of another: the twin sister she absorbed in the womb. But that doesn’t explain the gaps of missing time in her practice schedule, or the memories she has of things she certainly never did with Isaac.

Armed with the knowledge that her heart might not be hers alone, Sasha must decide what she’s willing to do—and who she’s willing to hurt—to take it back.

THE BONUS CONTENT

It’s a mini-podcast episode about the inspiration behind THIS DARKNESS MINE!

  1. My favorite Halloween was when I finally got to trick or trick with my best friend in her neighborhood, instead of mine, which only had 20 houses (not much loot to get around my house). I came home with half of my pillowcase filled with candy and snacks.

  2. I project this will be the best Halloween! I am finally getting the chance to go to a Halloween themed amusement park (I am SO excited) and I’m gonna go to a bunch of Haunts to get scared to death! Lol

  3. Please choose me. I know it’s random but I have worked my heart out trying to win a copy of waste of space!!!! You have no idea. I LOVE that book, I have since that YASH where you posted an excerpt of the audition process and i was HOOKED. I still haven’t read it but i know I’m going to LOVE it if it was anything like that outtake that had me in STITCHES. It was PERFECT. I could BELIEVE it because I felt like I’d met every single one of those people! And the format of the story-it’s all perfect. So I get SO EXCITED every time you do a YASH cause I’m like “ANOTHER CHANCE TO GET THE BOOK I WANT IT SO BAD” and I look forward to comping upon your blog as one of my most anticipated authors. I want Waste Of Space SOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDD and I have for, what? two years now? something like that. I lost count. But every time it comes around I both look forward to it and am desperate for it. I’m a theatre kid (and major and actor hopeful) so boks like this ARE MY JAM.

  4. Also I hate halloween so they’re all my least favorite. Except the one year I was superman. Also I trick or treated until I was 23. But man, I made that whole Superman costume piece by piece. Boots, tights, “undies”, leotard with a seperate patch that I ironed and the cap. All of it. I don’t think I owned a single piece before I worked my butt off to put it together! I LOVE Superman so it was worth it!

  5. I like Halloween because you get to dress up and be silly, and get a ton of free candy, you’ll probably will discovery some new candy. I go freak or treating with my niece :)

  6. Halloween is my favorite holiday so I have so many good memories! I miss being a little kid when I spent the whole night trick or treating with my friend and then we would go back home and sort through our loot.

  7. My favorite Halloween was when I was 11 and I dressed up like Dracula. I slicked my hair back, got the fake teeth, the elaborate cape, whited out my face. But my favorite part was squishing blood capsules in my mouth to look like I just drank blood. It was gory and perfect. My favorite costume to date just because of how extra little me was.

Thanks for the chance to win! I adore your books; Wax has been my favorite so far, but they are all hilarious and creepy, which is the best combination!

  8. I love all the Halloween in the past. I’ve always had so much fun on that day. Guess that’s why it’s my favorite holiday.

  9. We don’t celebrate Halloween in my neck of the woods. It’s mostly just costumed party and booze (which I guess still counts) but there’s no trick or treating. I guess my favorite part though is all the candy that goes on sale AND watching Halloween movies. Does that count?

  10. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. My mother was so creative and a good seamstress that we would pretty much take all the awards at the local roller rink. One year, my cousins and my siblings dress up (8 of us), with the boys dressed as the cheerleaders and the girl as football players…that was fun.

  11. I lied and I didn’t mean to but I didn’t think about it until I read Jessica’s reply. My favorite halloween was my freshman year of college. I got to be an extra on the set of a movie (that ran out of funding and didn’t get completed). I was an extra for two days, but I also had school. So I was school, on set, school, on set, school, and didn’t sleep for 54 hours straight. We were shooting from about 6 at night to 8 in the morning, and when one side was too bright, they flipped the cameras to the still dark side sky and kept filming. The second (third actually) day, was Halloween. And doing into it and then tlil about 8 am on Halloween, I was on set and so was Marc Blucas from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I did get a picture with him after it was all said and done (to make my mom jealous) but while all us extras were in one place, I started singing the song from the episode Hush to freak everybody out!!!! And I have so many good memories. Like the first night, it was so cold we would PUPPY PILE to stay warm, because we are OUTSIDE for OVER 14 HOURS STRAIGHT. And we were filming SUMMER SCENES. So we would bundle in our jackets and theyd get ready to film a scene and we’d shed those jackets and run to our positions at the end goals and cheer our hearts out and they’d call CUT!! and we’d run straight back to our jackets and throw them on!!!! And we did this so many times!!!! And the second night was warmer but still cold but not freezing. But that was the best 2 days of my life. And at the end I got to talk Marc Blucas cause I didn’t have a phone and Latronda was going to take my picture with him. So bless his tired heart, he waited with me until she made her way over and took the pictures with me. And I loved him from that moment because only a selfless good man is willing to wait 5 or 10 minutes or somethign (who knows) while the friend with the camera finishes up a call. And we even chatted a little. THANK YOU MARC BLUCAS. And that was my best halloween because acting is my dream and I got to be on a REAL MOVIE SET. In one part I was sitting two people away from the woman who played the wife. I would just miss being in frame on close ups, were the movie finished. But it’s cool, cause I got to be there for moments like when she asked for her prop ring cause it was missing, GOOD CATCH GIRL!!!! and I knocked into an old man going up the bleachers, I don’t know who he was to this day, and people around me freaked out like OMG HES TALKING TO YOU!!!! and I was like “….yeah. Cause I knocked into him and said sorry. and he said something back like a normal human”. SO MANY GOOD MEMORIES. BEST. HALLOWEEN. EVER.

  12. My favorite Halloween was last year where I wore roller skates and basically fell in front of a lot of people but it was with my friends so its all good. Thank you for this chance.

  13. I’m from Greece and we don’t celebrate Halloween. We have something like Halloween in February but it’s for little kids, noting special.
Thanks for participating in the hunt!

  14. My favorite was when I got my first house, went crazy with decorations and I had so much fun handing out candy to all the kids!!!
Now I live out in the country and we don’t get any trick-or-treaters and I miss that!

  15. My favorite Halloween was probably last year. I got to work at the mall on Halloween and I dressed up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast and I had several little girls come and give me hugs cause they were excited to meet a Disney princess. It made me feel loved and special.

  16. my fave halloween moment, I think i was 17, and my friends and I (5 of us total) dressed up like tetris pieces, made our costumes out of boxes. Even had a pair of speakers attached to one costume that blared the tetris theme all night long. We could even fit together for photos. (And the idea was all MINE). best halloween ever.
